We do not require specific USMLE scores for admittance to residency. What we do require is that you have passed the USMLE step 1 (on 1st or 2nd attempt) and step 2CK on your first attempt. We do not require Step 3. Almost all IMGs who receive an interview have passed each step exam on their first attempt.
We prefer prior clinical experience and/or letters of recommendation from clinicians working in the US or US-licensed physicians abroad. At present, we do not offer any non-US citizen IMG observerships, externships or research positions.
We will accept US MD, DOs as well as International Medical Graduates (IMGs). For IMGs, we accept those with permanent resident status in addition to US citizens. At this time, we do not sponsor visa applications.
All applicants must participate in the NRMP match through the ERAS system. Qualified IMG applications sent prior to October 15th will receive priority review status. We also require IMGs to have graduated medical school less than three (3) years ago. Graduates of medical universities excluded by the Alabama Medical Licensure Board will not be considered (https://dev.albme.org/requirements-for-licensure).
