Persis Susan Soman, M.D.

Some of my earliest memories are of walking through medical camps with my parents, who were missionaries. I was fascinated by the way doctors and volunteers cared for patients, bringing not just healing but hope. Seeing the impact of compassionate medicine inspired me to pursue a career where I could serve others in the same way.

I completed my medical education at Basaveshwara Medical College and went on to work at a mission hospital in Kerala, where faith and medicine came together beautifully. There, I witnessed firsthand how small acts of care could transform lives. It was a deeply fulfilling experience that reinforced my passion for family medicine and my desire to provide holistic, lifelong care.

Guided by faith, I embarked on my journey to the U.S., where I had the opportunity to gain diverse clinical experiences. From my very first visit to Gadsden Regional Medical Center, I felt an undeniable sense of belonging. The warmth of the faculty, the camaraderie among residents, and the shared commitment to compassionate care made it clear that this was where I wanted to grow as a physician. My husband, Stanley, felt the same way—we both knew this was the place we wanted to be. Coming from a family of missionaries, where both of our parents are pastors, we have always shared a heart for service, and together, we hope to use our lives and skills to make a difference wherever God leads us.

Outside of work, I love spending time with my family, singing, and cooking. I am grateful to be part of the Gadsden family and excited for the journey ahead!
